The Temporomandibular Joint is the industrious “jaw joint” that facilitates the opening and closing movements of the jaw. Unfortunately, the TMJ is a common source of painful and reoccurring symptoms and many patients may be unaware of the source of their discomfort or tooth wear. Common signs and symptoms of a TMJ disorder include :

Teeth Grinding
Tooth Wear
Popping or clicking in the jaw joint
Frequent headaches or migraines
Soreness or tiredness of the facial muscles or jaw
Pain when chewing, eating or opening wide

At Brookwood Dentistry, we carefully examine the unique signs and symptoms a patient may be experiencing in order to create a personalized treatment plan to remedy the dysfunction and discomfort. Appliances such as deprogrammers and occlusal guards may be used to relax and retrain muscles to bring the jaw joints into proper alignment. Many patients may be unaware that they are clenching and grinding their teeth while they sleep, causing the teeth to wear down prematurely. It is critical to heal the entire system starting from the most harmonious position of the jaw joint to the proper alignment of the teeth in order to give our patients complete, healthy and long-lasting smiles.
